IKEA Smart Blinds Coming to The UK, EU and US

UPDATE: Ikea have announced that the release date for the blinds has been delayed until the summer of 2019.

Ikea is set to launch the smart blinds named KADRILJ and FYRTUR with support for HomeKit and the TRÅDFRI gateway that already controls the company’s smart bulbs. This is not Ikea’s first step into smart home as they have previously launched the smart bulbs and the Smart plug, but the later has been a rocky launch for them as they had to pull the HomeKit support. The two different models in IKEA’s smart blind range include the * FYRTUR * The FYRTUR is designed as a blackout blind which is powered by a rechargeable battery with HomeKit support * KADRILJ * The KADRILJ is more of a traditional blind that lets light through with a rechargeable battery and HomeKit support. IKEA are linking the Smart blinds with its existing TRÅDFRI lighting gateway. That means the new smart blinds can be controlled using Alexa, HomeKit or the Google Assistant.

Well, some is right and some isn’t. Support for the Gateway will not exist upon launch, neither the connections to the smart home systems. It will only work with the assigned remote and extender upon launch.

Currently Ikea is pushing the releasedate in Sweden. Originally on the 2nd of February but now the FYRTUR is listed as available on the 10th of February (in Malmö).

But, it will for sure be a nice product!

Thanks for the input, hopefully by the time it reaches the UK and US, everything will be in place.

    Interesting products.
Is there any news on when Ikea may (re)release Homekit support for their Smart Plug?

There have been a couple of delays, but the last I heard was that they were planning to release the update for the smart plug around the same time as the blinds get the update necessary for HomeKit compatibility. Don’t hold me to that though!

It looks that IKEA postponed smart blinds till summer bacause of manufacturing / supply issues – got this information from local store employer.
