Yeelight Update Brings HomeKit to Their Yeelight Lightstrip Plus

Yeelight have issued a firmware update to their latest generation of Light strip, sometimes referred to as either the Aurora Light strip or the Light Strip Plus, that brings long-awaited HomeKit functionality. The update seems to be slowly populating, so if you can’t see the update immediately, keep checking every few hours, and hopefully, the update will be exposed.

In my instance, to begin the process I long pressed on the tile in the Mi Home app until the tiles all started to ‘wobble’, which results in a HomeKit logo at the bottom being revealed. You press on the icon, and you will be asked to choose your HomeKit home in order to place the strip into the hands of HomeKit. After that, a series of screens will present themselves, in much the same way you would normally see when adding a HomeKit device, only in this instance you aren’t asked to scan a HomeKit code as such.

Once the process is complete, the light strip will be exposed as a ‘light’ just like any other HomeKit light strip.

If you’re not aware of Yeelight, they are a company, that unsurprisingly specialise in lighting products, mostly for the Xiaomi Smart Home Ecosystem, and will work within the Mi Home app, although they also work with their own Yeelight app, and will also work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so with HomeKit added, the trio of smart homes are truly covered.

the Yeelight Light Strip plus is available on amazon.com now and is also available from Chinese online stores like GearBest, where you can also get extensions to the light strip.
