Abode Iota Security Gateway now supports Apple Homekit

Abode announced their intentions to support Apple Homekit when they first started talking publicly about the Iota Gateway, although it took longer than any of us wanted, Abode is one of the few companies that I actually expected to deliver on their promises.

For those of you not familiar with Abode, they are one of the most well-known names in the DIY Home Security world. On Nov 21st, 2019 – Abode has officially launched the rollout of the Homekit compatible firmware for the Abode Iota Gateway. For those of you with the Abode Gen1 or Gen2 gateways, there is still hope as Abode is still working through the Apple Homekit certification process with those products.

As the firmware rolls out, check back here for a more in-depth look on the Abode Iota Homekit integration as I will be posting a setup/review video in the next couple of days once I’ve had a chance to properly test it out and see how it compares to some of my other Apple Homekit devices.

  • I just purchased one of these systems. I’ll do a review once it’s installed and running. This will be a 28 piece system. An Iota starter kit plus another 25 items I selected.

I look forward to installing this system. I used to install wired security systems professionally in new homes. I’ve designed and installed systems in older homes as well. So this will be fun. No wiring!

    • Can’t wait Bart! Look forward to it. I really like the design of the hub/camera. I’ve no need for more sensors right now though.

  • My Homekit install gives me “No Response” or “Updating” for Abode devices. It rarely finds them online. Both Homekit and Abode run fine on their own. I think more work needs to be done to make them truly compatible. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
