Swedish Smart Home Ecosystem Plejd Gains HomeKit Support

As first reported by our friend Micke Rehn at teknikvackan.se, the popular Swedish smart home ecosystem known as Plejd has now added official HomeKit support to its Gateway (model GWY-01), thereby exposing all child devices connected to that hub to HomeKit by default.

For those users that already use the company’s gateway, you simply need to download the latest firmware update to take advantage of this new functionality.

The gateway connects to your router or modem via an ethernet port and connects to the child devices connected to it using Bluetooth Mesh technology. Bluetooth Mesh is less common than the likes of Zigbee, Z-Wave, and of course Thread, but Bluetooth mesh is nonetheless also used by Xiaomi via some of their products and gateways, as well as Yeelight, who besides using WiFi, also use Bluetooth Mesh for their Pro lineup of lighting products.

Plejd offers mostly lighting and power solutions, via a series of different relays, drivers, a smart plug, as well as a wireless push button and rotary dial solution.

Despite gaining HomeKit support, there’s no mention of any future update to Matter, although it can’t be ruled out.
