Aqara Smart Magic Switch S1E

The Aqara Magic Switch S1E is a sort of budget-friendly version of their previously released combined switch and display panels, but with the addition of six wireless buttons that are exposed to HomeKit, meaning you can now control HomeKit devices from a display designed for another ecosystem, essentially. We look at this device and give you a brief overview of the other two display panels in this series – the Aqara Scene Panel S1, and the Aqara MagicPad S1.

You can purchase the Aqara Magic Switch S1E from our recommended store on AliExpress – and if you use the following code: S1S30315 – you can save US$3.00 on the price. You can also use this code with the Scene Panel S1, and the Smart Thermostat S3.

  • Does it work with other than the Chinese servers too?

    • Hi, it can only be added to the China server, but as its a WiFi device you don’t need a hub on the server to get it working.

  • That looks so cool…I’m in the UK, so I’d need 240V support, in addition to the slightly different form factor, but I’d buy this in a heartbeat. Can you turn off all the screens except the HomeKit exposed buttons?

    • Hi, sorry for the late reply. This is designed to work on 220-240v, and even though it’s been a while since I lived in the UK, don’t they use square switch boxes, as opposed to the rounded ones in Europe? If they do, it should fit fine, although you’ll first have to ensure the switch you’re replacing has a neutral wire, and the box is deep enough to accommodate the back part of the switch. If you only want to use the one screen with the HomeKit buttons, you can just delete the other screens via the settings in the Aqara app. You’d still have a standby screen, but that can be changed to other displays, like a circular clock, and a couple of other options – I didn’t show this in the video, but it’ll be in the written review.

  • I’ve got my S1E from AliExpress. I changed my Aqara app location to China and the device finally appeared as a hub device. Then I could add it to HomeKit.
Now in HomeKit I can see the switches and assign actions to the 6 wireless buttons BUT both Aqara app and the actual switch show a “The page is loaded incorrectly. Please try again later” message.
Any ideas to reset the thing?

    • Hi, to reset the S1E, swipe down from the top of the screen, and select the ‘cog’ icon. Then select the second last option, and from there select the fourth option down. This will ask you if you want to reset the device. Select the button highlighted in orange.
