New Matter Over Thread Smart Switch Released

You would have thought that with the rumoured high entry price to Matter membership would deter many smaller companies, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least for SmartSetup. They’re currently selling smart Matter over Thread smart switches for the North American market.

Due to this, the switches are fully designed to replace standard single gang US rocker switches, using the ‘Decora’ style and dimensions. It’s important to note that these switches, like the equivalent switches from Eve, do require a neutral wire. If you have a neutral wire installed, these switches will then act as Thread Routers to extend your Thread network.

Because they use Matter over Thread, you’ll also need a Matter Controller and Thread Border Router, which is thankfully covered by nearly all of Apple’s current Home Hubs.

The company, based in Australia, also have their own app, although it’s only for their HomeKit products, not the Matter versions. The SmartSetup Matter over Thread switch is available on Amazon.com now for US$44.99 (price at time of this article).
