Meross Releases Updated Water Leak Sensor Kit

Meross has today released an updated water leak kit comprising a leak sensor and Apple Home compatible hub, with many improvements over the previous model.

The updated model presents a redesign of both the hub and the sensor, along with other improvements specific to the sensor. Whilst the original leak sensor has a built-in siren, it only offered 60dB, which could easily be missed. Now the new model has upped this to 100dB, combined with an alert sound from the hub*.

The new sensor also features leak probes on both the bottom and top of the device, which could help if a leak were to come from above or below. Meross also claim that you’ll get twice the battery life from the new sensor, offering three years of use as opposed to 18 months. The sensor is IP66 rated, which is one down from the older model’s IP67 rating, the difference for which is probably minimal.

If you already have the previous Meross hub, the new sensor will be able to work with it, as they both use 433MHz for radio communication, which some prefer due to it not interfering with the 2.4GHz band occupied by WiFi, Zigbee, and Thread products.

Apple Home compatibility for the sensor can only be achieved through the hub, which itself is exposed to Apple Home. If you’re already awash (no pun intended) with hubs from other manufacturers, however, this may be one hub you can do without, given there are other leak sensors on the market. Whether they offer the same set of features – built-in alarm and dual probes – is another question, however.
