Samsung unveils 4KTV and Stand Combo With AirPlay
Samsung has introduced a new display product, the ‘Moving Style Edge’ (MSE), and with the inclusion of AirPlay, this should be of at least passing interest to HomeKit users. This is a smart TV designed for flexible placement within the home, featuring an adjustable stand and integration with the SmartThings platform for smart home control.
The MSE combines its existing Smart Monitor M7 with a height-adjustable stand that extends up to 0.81 metres, making it suitable for use from a chair, sofa, or desk. The stand allows for both height and tilt adjustment, and the screen can be rotated into portrait mode if required. In principle, the stand is also compatible with other Samsung monitors up to 55 inches in size.
The included Smart Monitor M7 features a 32-inch panel with 4K resolution, and a 60 Hz refresh rate. It supports Wi-Fi 5 and runs Samsung’s Smart TV operating system, enabling direct access to streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube amongst others.
The display can serve as a hub for connected devices via the Samsung SmartThings platform and it also feature an option to see all of your SmartThings devices on a virtual 3D map of your home and control them directly from the screen. Whether this hub includes things like Matter Controller functionality or even a Thread Border Router, is unclear.
The monitor includes USB-C and HDMI ports for external connections. Built-in 10-watt stereo speakers provide basic audio output. Despite being a mobile TV solution, the MSE does not include a built-in battery and must be connected to a mains power source for operation.
As it stands, the MVE is initially launching in South Korea, with an international release still in the potential planning stage.
