LG Launches 27″ Portable Touch Screen with Matter Support
South Korean electronics manufacturer LG has announced an update to its original StanbyME portable monitor that we reported on back in 2022. The StanbyME 2 (awful name…) now offers more functionality as well as an additional display option.
The StanbyME 2 includes a built-in battery that supports up to 4 hours of usage on a single charge. It can be moved freely, detached from its stand, or connected to external devices via a USB-C port. The display is touch-enabled, allowing direct control of content, apps, and features without the need for a remote. Users can also draw, play games, access educational content, or interact with apps directly on screen.
A feature known as Mood Maker provides several ambient display options, including animated content, a clock, weather information, and a turntable interface.
The StanbyME 2 supports QHD resolution and uses LG’s Alpha 8 AI processor. The processor adjusts picture and sound settings based on the content being shown. Support for Dolby Vision® and Dolby Atmos® is included. It runs LG’s webOS smart TV platform, providing access to apps and over 350 free LG Channels. LG states that the product will receive software updates for up to 5 years through the webOS Re:New programme.
The screen supports TV mirroring for mobile devices, allowing content to be displayed wirelessly. It also includes voice recognition for hands-free operation, enabling voice commands from a distance.
In the specs for this device, it does state that it offers support for Apple Home, AirPlay 2, and is also Matter compatible, although to what extent it is compatible, or what Matter support offers, is unclear.
At the time of writing, the StanbyME 2 is being sold for the RRP of US$1299.99, which is pretty steep for a 27″ display and stand, although it’s a fair bit more than a simple monitor of course.
