Level unveil the Lock Pro w/ Matter over Thread and More…
Smart lock company Level has announced its latest product, the Level Lock Pro. This new smart lock combines – the company claims – improved performance, security, and and a new feature – door status detection. The company does still manage to retain the same discreet design used in previous models.
Level Lock Pro is built on a new hardware platform designed to improve responsiveness and extend battery life. Integrated sensors detect whether the door is open or closed without the need for visible magnets or add-ons. Due to Matter over Thread support (as also found in their most recent lock iterations), the Pro works with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings – as long as you have a Matter Controller in your setup, and ideally a Thread Border Router, the latter of which is already included in the HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd gen), Apple TV4K (2nd gen), and Apple TV4K (3rd gen, 128GB model).
This isn’t the first Matter over Thread lock from the company, however, as both the Level Lock+ (The Pro replaces the Level Lock+) and Level Bolt offered Matter over Thread variants. The Pro’s focus is Door Status Detection, in addition to Apple HomeKey, and the updates offering better power consumption and security.
The lock supports a range of access methods, including a physical key, the Level app, Apple HomeKey, and NFC fobs. Standard features such as auto-lock, activity history, guest sharing, and Bluetooth operation are also present, ensuring use even if internet or power is unavailable.
One feature that seems kind of unique is the inclusion of a PIR sensor built into the outer assembly of the lock. This, it seems, helps wake up NFC (and possibly Apple HomeKey) when motion is detected, but when there’s no motion, it puts the NFC feature into low power mode, thus reducing battery consumption.

No UWB still?? Man. I want to buy this lock but with Aliro / UWB right around the corner it seems foolish to buy a new lock now.
It’s possible that it already has the technology for UWB, but as they’ve still not finalised the Aliro standard yet, its probably not likely, It’s also unlikely we’ll see any locks with UWB/Aliro until next year.
If the Magnetic door sensor and PIR sensor is exposed to AppleHome in the future this would be game changing.
Hopefully I can answer that question soon.
Neither the door sensor or PIR sensor are exposed to Apple Home.
