SwitchBot Launches AI Hub with Visual Event Recognition

SwitchBot has announced a new AI Hub, claiming it’s the first smart home edge hub to use a Visual Language Model (VLM) AI, allowing it to interpret events visually in a human-like way.

  • Features VLM AI (paid subscription service) for events interpretation & local AI for simple objects identification.
  • Visual Data Analysis: Paired with SwitchBot Pan/Tilt Cam Plus 2K/3K or Smart Video Doorbell, AI Hub can capture visual data, and make analysis based on the visual data captured.
  • Understand like Humans: AI Hub can detect and interpret events, then summarize the events in text for users to check in SwitchBot app.
  • Voice Search: Just say according condition, such as “Show me when I left my phone”, and the AI Hub  will instantly find the exact footage.

Daily AI Summary: Automatically compiles the day’s key household moments so you can review important events without scrolling through hours of video.

When paired with the company’s own Pan/Tilt Cam Plus 2K/3K or the SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell (note, neither of which are HomeKit compatible), it can recognise events and provide text summaries. These summaries can then be used as triggers for automations from within the Switchbot app and ecosystem. This reduces the complexity often involved when setting up automations in varied situations. The hub also supports text-based search, such as “Show me when I left my phone”, and can provide daily event summaries through the SwitchBot app. Up to 8 switchbot cameras can be supported, and RTSP support is also included.

The device includes 32GB of built-in storage, expandable to 1TB via the USB-C ports, for local video storage, removing the need for subscription fees and reducing privacy concerns.

The SwitchBot AI Hub connects to over 100 devices, supports Matter over Bridge (support for up to 30 Switchbot devices to Matter), dual-band Wi-Fi, and extended Bluetooth. A 6T AI chip allows local recognition, management of up to eight 2K cameras, RTSP streaming, and output to a monitor.
