Sharp Launch New 4KTVs w/ Apple HomeKit and AirPlay
Sharp Home Electronics Company of America (SHCA) has introduced its latest development in home entertainment, the Sharp AQUOS QLED 4K Ultra HD Smart Xumo TV (yes that’s the full name…). Now available from selected retailers across the US, the new model combines Sharp’s established expertise in display technology with high picture quality and immersive sound, powered by the Xumo operating system designed for straightforward use.
Sharp claims their new AQUOS Xumo TV (as I’ll refer to it going forward) aims to provide convenient access to both streaming and live content, with over 250 apps and hundreds of free streaming channels through Xumo Play integrated into the platform. As this is designed for smart homes, the televisions are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple AirPlay, and Apple HomeKit, allowing users to stream from Amazon and Apple devices, control the TV using voice commands, and integrate it with their wider smart home systems, although Google and SmartThings are not mentioned.
The new televisions feature universal search functions across all apps, making it quick to locate content using the voice remote. Viewers can browse by category, theme, or genre, create personalised app rows, and build a “My List” of preferred programmes and films.
Picture quality is enhanced through Dolby Vision, delivering 3840 x 2160p resolution, supported by the X7 Revelation Processor. Dolby Atmos audio technology is also supported, adding to the experience with detailed, realistic sound.
The AQUOS Xumo TV is available in five screen sizes to suit different spaces: 85″ (84.5″ diagonal), 75″ (74.5″), 65″ (64.5″), 55″ (54.5″), and 50″ (49.5″). Each model includes HDMI and USB ports, an advanced voice remote, and a concealed cable management system for tidy installation.
ABOUT XUMO
Xumo (presumably pronounced ’Soo-mo’) is a joint venture between Comcast and Charter, established to develop and deliver what is claimed to be a next-gen streaming platform for the wider entertainment industry. The company operates through three main divisions: Xumo Devices, Xumo Play, and Xumo Enterprise.
Built on Comcast’s global entertainment platform, Xumo devices offer an advanced user interface with universal voice search, allowing viewers to find and enjoy their preferred streaming content with ease. Xumo Play is a free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service that provides hundreds of linear channels and on-demand options. It serves as the core of the free content offering on Xumo devices and is also available as an app on other major streaming platforms.
Xumo Enterprise forms the business-to-business side of the venture, supplying content creators, distributors, and advertisers with tools and services that make FAST content more widely accessible.
The new range is available now from selected retailers in the United States.
