Matter over Thread Smart Window Lever Launched in Europe
The brand Siegenia isn’t a name we’re familiar with at HomeKit News, but maybe it should be as this company has released a smart window lever with Matter over Thread.
This isn’t just a smart lever that tells you whether your window is open, closed, or locked. You can also lock or unlock it via your smart home system, through automations, or remotely as part of your Matter setup. This is the Siegenia Smart Window Handle Gen. 2, which now appears to be available to order for €89.90, excluding shipping.
The Smart Window Handle is a modern upgrade to traditional manually lockable handles, combining security and convenience in one product. Like many smart security devices, it eliminates the risk of keys getting stuck and spares you the hassle of searching for them. The handle is available in anthracite or white and features a sleek, minimalist design that should suit both timber and PVC windows. According to the company, installation is just as straightforward as fitting a standard handle.
The smart handle is powered by two AAA batteries, with a motor built into the upper section of the unit allowing for the lock to be opened or closed without physically handling the lock yourself, although this is of course also possible. The handle also features a small status LED presumably to indicate its lock status as well as battery levels.
Whilst the lock can be added to your Matter smart home ecosystem of choice, this lever will also work with the company’s own HomeConnect app, offering additional functionality not usually available via the regular Matter platforms.
You can find out more about this new device via the company’s website.

Would be nice to know what functionality is lost if not using yet another app for Matter devices
There is no app for Matter devices. Matter devices have standardized feature sets and can be controlled by any Matter hub you already have. In this case, your hub must also have Thread connectivity.
Sorry, I missed the end of the article, which you refer to. You are right, it is a good question.

What would be the use of automating the handle, if it can’t open or shut the window?
For those that forget to lock them – teenagers perhaps…!
Haha, asked myself the same question. What is the practical use of this…? I still have to close or open the window myself. Only using it for locking or unlocking the lever is pretty luxurious…
