Eve Systems Revamps Its Thread Radiator Valve for 2025
In a move that brings modern smart-home heating to traditional radiators, Eve Systems has updated its smart radiator valve – Eve Thermo – with full support for the Matter standard, combined with Thread networking for totally local and private connectivity.
Like the previous mode, the 2025 Eve Thermo is a smart radiator valve actuator designed to replace a standard manual or thermostatic radiator valve. It fits directly onto common M30 × 1.5 radiator threads, and the package includes adapters for popular Danfoss valve types, meaning installation generally takes only a few minutes and does not require plumbing work. It’s powered by two AA batteries, so no external wiring is needed.
Connectivity is handled via Matter over Thread, enabling the valve to be controlled locally without reliance on cloud services. With a compatible Thread Border Router, (HomePod mini, HomePod 2nd Gen, or some models of Apple TV4K for Apple Home), responsiveness should remain consistent even if internet access is lost. Because Matter is supported, the device is controllable through Apple Home, as well as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, and even Home Assistant, which is showing up with more and more brands these days, like Aqara and Switchbot, for example.
Temperature can be adjusted in several ways: through the Eve app or any Matter-compatible ecosystem app – like Apple Home, using voice assistants like Siri or Alexa, or simply by using the buttons and small display on the unit itself. Scheduling is also supported, allowing users to configure heating behaviour per room across the week. These schedules are stored locally on the device, so automations continue to operate even if the home hub or the user’s phone is offline.
Design-wise, the new model is in my opinion, a definite improvement, with a slightly more minimal look. Missing is also the track that separated the two sections on the original, as well as a slightly different and smoother looking overall profile.
As part of broader smart-home automation, Eve Thermo is designed to help optimise heating based on presence. For example, the temperature can automatically reduce when the home is unoccupied and return to comfort levels on arrival. When integrated with sensors such as contact sensors, heating can pause if a window is opened to prevent wasted energy.
There are a few limitations worth noting; Eve Thermo acts as an actuator controlling the valve on individual radiators; it does not replace the home’s main boiler controller or central heating thermostat. In systems where the boiler only fires based on other controls, smart radiator valves alone may not be sufficient to trigger heating. Additionally, compatibility does depend on the existing valve hardware, so households using uncommon fittings may require further adapters.
It should also be noted that whilst the Eve app has expanded from iOS to Android, the Android version still lacks some advanced features, specifically when integrating Eve Thermo with SmartThings or Alexa.
The 2025 Eve Thermo is available to buy now direct from Eve, priced at €79.95, which unfortunately is a little more expensive than the also recently released Aqara W600 Radiator Thermostat, currently for sale at €49.95, which not only offers Matter over Thread, but Zigbee 3.0 as an alternative.

To add to that: The Android app works only with Google Home, so if you use a different type of Thread router, you will have no access to any configuration settings beyond the standard Matter controls.
Thanks for the additional info. Appreciate it.
