Lockin Unveils V7 Max Mortice Smart Lock With Optical Wireless Power
Lockin, a brand fairly unknown to many of our readers, has announced the V7 Max, a mortise-style smart lock and entry handle. Interestingly, the lock introduces a new power system that uses an optical transmitter to deliver continuous wireless power to the lock’s interior escutcheon, rather than relying on batteries or solar charging.
While several smart locks have previously used solar panels to supplement battery power, the V7 Max is the first consumer smart lock seen to date that operates continuously via an optical power link.
The power system, branded AuraCharge, uses a dedicated indoor transmitter that plugs into a wall outlet and beams eye-safe optical energy to a sensor panel on the interior side of the lock. The transmitter can be placed on a surface or wall-mounted and must be installed within approximately 13 feet of the lock, with a clear line of sight. According to Lockin, the system delivers power regardless of ambient lighting conditions and is designed to operate reliably across different environments and weather conditions.
The V7 Max also integrates a wide range of sensors and display hardware. It supports three biometric authentication methods: finger-vein recognition, palm-vein recognition, and 3D facial recognition (so no Apple HomeKey it seems). Two exterior high-definition cameras provide video doorbell functionality, while dual 5-inch touchscreens on the interior and exterior allow users to view visitors, manage access, and interact with the lock directly. Additional cameras and sensors are used to reduce blind spots around the doorway.
Software features are handled through LockinAI, a platform that supports scenario-based automation such as delivery detection, theft prevention, visitor management, and searchable video footage. The lock supports Matter (over WiFi?), enabling integration with Apple Home, Google, Amazon, and Samsung SmartThings without the need for a dedicated hub beyond a Matter Controller.
Pricing for the V7 Max has not yet been announced. Lockin says professional installation will be offered for buyers replacing an existing mortise lock, due to the precision required for this type of hardware. Lockin also confirmed that AuraCharge will be introduced in a revised version of its Veno Pro smart lock in early 2026, with pricing expected to remain around US$350.
Preorders for the V7 Max are scheduled to open in January, with shipping planned for early March 2026.
