Aqara launches Smart Lock U400 with UWB Hands-Free Unlocking

Aqara has announced the Smart Lock U400 at CES 2026, expanding its smart-lock range with a model that supports Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for hands-free unlocking via Apple HomeKey on iPhone and Apple Watch.

The U400 uses UWB positioning to unlock automatically as an authorised user approaches the door from outside, without requiring a tap, PIN, or manual interaction. Aqara says the lock relies on ‘Time-of-Flight’ distance measurement and Angle of Arrival calculations to determine approach direction, reducing the risk of accidental unlocking when someone is indoors or passing by.

According to Aqara, the UWB implementation also includes protections against relay attacks, including scrambled timestamp sequence security. The lock supports HomeKey in Apple Wallet, allowing residents to unlock using an iPhone kept in a pocket or bag, or an Apple Watch worn on the wrist. When the lock is added to the Apple Home app, Home Keys are automatically issued to household members, with guest access managed through Apple Home.

In addition to UWB unlocking and Apple HomeKey, the Smart Lock U400 supports multiple access methods, including NFC, fingerprint recognition, one-time and recurring passcodes, remote unlocking via supported apps, voice control through assistants such as Alexa and Siri, and a physical key for emergency access.

The lock uses Matter over Thread, allowing it to work with platforms including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant, without requiring a proprietary Aqara hub. Aqara says the U400 is Aliro-ready and is intended to support future mobile access standards. Samsung Wallet support is planned for Q1 2026, enabling compatible Samsung devices to function as digital keys.

Additional features include an auto-lock function driven by an internal gyroscope, an IP65-rated enclosure, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery rated for up to six months per charge. The battery can be recharged using a standard power bank if depleted. The lock is available in black, silver, shadow black, and satin nickel finishes, although currently in North America only the first two finishes are listed on Amazon.

The Aqara Smart Lock U400 is available now in the US, Canada via Aqara’s website, Amazon.com or Amazon.ca, Best Buy, and other retailers. It’s also available through Apple Store locations and apple.com in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. Aqara says availability via Apple Store channels in the US is expected later this month.

You can pick up the Aqara Smart Lock U400 from Amazon.com now, in either Black or silver for US$269.99.
