TCL Introduces New Matter over Thread smart locks to CES

TCL has announced two new smart locks at CES 2026; an updated TCL D2 Pro Palm Vein Smart Lock and the new TCL D2L Fingerprint Lever Lock. Both models support Matter over Thread and carry BHMA Grade 3 certification, positioning them as residential smart locks designed for cross-platform compatibility and local operation.

TCL D2 PRO PALM VEIN SMART LOCK

The updated D2 Pro uses infrared-based palm vein recognition, which scans vein patterns beneath the skin rather than surface-level biometric data. According to TCL, this approach is intended to reduce the risk of duplication and allows for touch-free unlocking.

The lock processes biometric data locally and uses on-device learning to refine recognition accuracy over time. No cloud processing is required for biometric matching.

Matter over Thread support allows the D2 Pro to integrate with platforms including Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. Thread connectivity is also intended to improve response times and reduce power consumption compared with Wi-Fi-based locks.

TCL states the D2 Pro offers up to eight months of battery life under typical use.

Key features

  • Infrared palm vein recognition
  • Local, on-device biometric processing
  • Matter over Thread support
  • Claimed battery life of up to eight months
  • BHMA Grade 3 certification
TCL D2L FINGERPRINT LEVER LOCK

The D2L adopts a traditional lever-style design with a built-in fingerprint sensor. TCL says its Grip-to-Unlock mechanism enables fingerprint recognition in as little as 0.3 seconds, allowing the lock to authenticate as the handle is grasped. As with the D2 Pro, fingerprint data is processed locally, with on-device learning used to improve recognition reliability over time. The D2L also supports Matter over Thread for compatibility across major smart home platforms.

TCL lists a longer claimed battery life of up to twelve months, alongside the same BHMA Grade 3 residential rating.

Key features

  • Lever-style lock with integrated fingerprint reader
  • Claimed 0.3-second fingerprint recognition
  • Local biometric processing
  • Matter over Thread support
  • Claimed battery life of up to twelve months
  • BHMA Grade 3 certification

Considering the Ultra Wideband smart locks like those from Aqara and Ultraloq are the hot news now, it does make you wonder what promise locks like these hold, although there’s always going to be use cases for those without UWB or Apple HomeKey. Both the TCL D2 Pro Palm Vein Smart Lock and TCL D2L Fingerprint Lever Lock are scheduled to go on sale in Q2 2026. Pricing has yet to be announced.

2026 looks the year of Matter over Thread. And we are now flush with Matter over Thread locks and 800 lm light bulbs. Hoping for brighter bulbs and baseboard heater thermostats in 2027.
