Dewenils Releases Outdoor Dimmer Plug w/ Matter

You might be forgiven for not having heard of the Dewenils brand, but they’ve now introduced a new Matter over Wi‑Fi Smart Dimmer Plug. This new smart outdoor dimmer plug is designed to allow you to power dimmable dumb lights, typically string lights that are used outdoors. This bring app-based and remote control lighting control to patios, gardens, string lights and other outdoor lighting setups. It combines Matter smart-home interoperability with traditional plug-in dimmer functionality to support both manual and voice-assisted brightness control.

The outdoor dimmer is Matter certified, meaning it works with major smart platforms including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings. Once connected users can adjust brightness levels, turn lights on or off, and create automation routines directly from your chosen Matter compatible app (eg Apple Home).

In addition to app control, the device includes a remote control with a claimed signal reach of up to 100ft, that lets users adjust lighting without needing to walk outside. The remote supports basic functions such as on/off and dim/brighten, offering flexibility for users who either don’t have their smart phone handy or simply prefer the direct approach.

The dimmer plug is built for outdoor use with a weather-resistant housing and robust extension cord, allowing it to stand up to moisture, sunlight and everyday outdoor conditions. Not, however, that it’s only IP44 outdoor rated, with IP65 a more preferred level of water resistance. Its construction is intended to ensure both heat dissipation and fire resistance, important factors for devices that handle mains voltage outdoors.

The dimmer comes in two options, a single or double sockets, with the latter featuring dual grounded AC outlets, enabling users to control two lighting loads simultaneously from a single device. It supports a broad range of load types, including:

• Up to 400 W incandescent/tungsten bulbs
• Up to 200 W dimmable LED bulbs

This makes it suitable for string lights, patio lighting, landscape lighting, task lights and seasonal décor. However, users should ensure that connected bulbs are themselves dimmable to avoid performance issues. Smart dimmable bulbs won’t work.
