Netatmo Launches New Thermostat and Smart Radiator Valve w/ Matter
Netatmo (yes, they still exist) has today introduced an updated heating control solution, the Thermostat ORIGINAL and Smart Radiator Valve ORIGINAL, as part of a broader revision of its heating product line. The range features new industrial design, expanded connectivity via Matter, and integration with the company’s Home + Control app for unified smart-home control.
The new Thermostat ORIGINAL adopts a minimalist aesthetic with a clean, touch-oriented interface intended to blend into a variety of interiors. The housing uses 65% recycled plastics and is produced in Europe, reflecting an emphasis on sustainability aligned with user research showing strong consumer interest in eco-friendly design.
The Smart Radiator Valve ORIGINAL mirrors this simplicity in a compact white form factor with a discreet LED display. Its display shows essential information and turns off automatically to minimise energy use. The valve’s interface can be rotated to suit installation orientation.
The Thermostat ORIGINAL supports both wired and wireless installation and can be self-installed in under 30 minutes using the included kit and documentation. It is compatible with most individual heating systems, including gas and oil boilers, air-to-water heat pumps, and wood or pellet stoves, enabling integration into a wide range of existing setups without major modifications.
Key thermostat features include:
- Smart scheduling to automate heating based on daily routines, with Netatmo citing potential energy savings of up to €250 per year through intelligent scheduling.
- Anticipation function to reach target temperature by a scheduled time.
- Eco-Assist geolocation to reduce heating during unplanned absences.
- Notifications and alerts for system performance and faults.
- Customisable home scenes, such as Departure or Arrival, to coordinate heating with other smart devices like lights or shutters.
The Smart Radiator Valve ORIGINAL extends control room by room, allowing individual temperature settings per radiator. This granular control can further support efficient energy use, complementing whole-home scheduling.
At the centre of the new range is the Thermo Hub, a network gateway that synchronises all ORIGINAL heating devices. The Thermo Hub enables local and remote control while providing Matter compatibility, positioning the products for broader interoperability with major smart-home ecosystems. Matter support means the heating devices can natively interact with platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and SmartThings for voice control and automation.
The Thermostat ORIGINAL and Smart Radiator Valve ORIGINAL are controlled through the Home + Control app, which Netatmo is positioning as a unified interface for managing not only heating but also lighting, shutters, and other connected home systems. The refreshed app experience supersedes Netatmo’s older Energy app and consolidates device control into a single environment.
Netatmo offers several accessories to support varied installation scenarios:
- Table Stand for flexible placement without wall mounting.
- Wall Mount for traditional thermostat installation.
- Thermo Link, a wireless receiver that connects directly to a boiler or compatible heating system, enabling thermostat control without hard-wiring.
- Multiple Thermostats and Thermo Links can be added to support zone heating in larger homes.
The redesigned Netatmo ORIGINAL heating range delivers updated hardware and expanded smart-home integration, with Matter support positioning it for broader compatibility than earlier generation products. The products retain familiar features aimed at energy efficiency and comfort while modernising design and unifying control through the Home + Control app and centralised hub.
The Thermostat Original is available to purchase now, while the radiator thermostat is expected to arrive later in the year. In Europe, the wall-mounted version costs €140, with the wireless version priced €10 higher. Netatmo hasn’t yet announced pricing for the radiator thermostats.
