Xiaomi’s New High End TV Lineup Includes AirPlay Support
Xiaomi has unveiled a new large-format television on its global site, the Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 98 2026. The model sits at the upper end of the company’s 2026 TV range and uses a Mini-LED backlight system paired with a 98-inch LCD panel. It also offers, in a first for a Xiaomi TV, Apple AirPlay. There’s also an 85” version available.
The TV uses a QD-Mini LED backlight with 880 local dimming zones. Local dimming divides the backlight into independently controlled areas, allowing the TV to adjust brightness in specific parts of the image rather than across the entire panel. In practical terms, this is intended to improve contrast performance and reduce blooming compared to conventional edge-lit or full-array LED sets with fewer zones.
Peak brightness is listed at up to 1,200 nits, which places it within the range typically required for high-impact HDR highlights in brighter viewing environments. The panel supports a native 144 Hz refresh rate, which should benefit motion handling for fast-moving content and gaming when paired with compatible sources.
The TV supports Dolby Vision for HDR content. Dolby Vision dynamically adjusts metadata on a scene-by-scene basis, where available, rather than using static HDR parameters. On the audio side, support for Dolby Atmos is included. As with most flat-panel televisions, the effectiveness of Atmos will depend on whether external audio equipment is used.
The Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 98 2026 runs Google TV, which is nothing out of the ordinary, giving access to Google’s content aggregation interface and app ecosystem. This includes support for streaming platforms available through the Google Play Store, as well as Google Assistant voice search.
Connectivity includes dual band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as expected for a television in this category but also with support for WiFi 6. The chassis design uses slim bezels with a high screen-to-body ratio. Mounting options include wall mounting or use with a supplied stand, depending on region.
For Apple users, compatibility is limited to AirPlay 2. The TV supports AirPlay 2 streaming from compatible Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This allows:
- Wireless video and audio streaming
- Screen mirroring
- Participation in multi-room audio setups using AirPlay-compatible devices
However, the television does not support Apple HomeKit integration. It does appear in the Apple Home app, but only as a speaker destination, and although it can be controlled through HomeKit scenes or automations to an extent, it’s limited to audio only functions. As AirPlay 2 allows for streaming to multiple AirPlay destinations at once, the TV’s speakers – or speakers connected to the TV can be useful. However, AirPlay also allows this to be used as a target destination for screen mirroring, which lets you stream video, or still images from an iPhone, Apple Mac, or iPad, which by itself is quite useful if you don’t have an Apple TV to connect to it.
