SwitchBot Releases Lock Vision Series w/ Facial & Palm Vein Unlocking

SwitchBot has released the Lock Vision Series for North America, comprising the SwitchBot Lock Vision and Lock Vision Pro. The new smart deadbolt range supports Matter over WiFi, allowing it to work with platforms such as Apple Home without requiring an additional Matter-enabled hub.

Both models include 3D structured-light facial recognition, using more than 20,000 infrared points to create a 3D facial map for unlocking. SwitchBot claims the system can unlock in under one second, while helping prevent spoofing attempts using photos or videos. It is also designed to work when users are wearing glasses, hats, wigs, or makeup.

The Lock Vision Series supports several unlocking methods, including facial recognition, app control, NFC cards, passcodes, voice assistants, smartwatch control, geo-fencing based auto-unlock, and physical keys. The Lock Vision Pro adds contactless palm vein recognition and semiconductor fingerprint unlocking.

Biometric data is stored locally, with AES-128 encrypted communication. SwitchBot also notes that biometric information cannot be accessed, retrieved, or managed through third-party platforms.

For power, the locks use SwitchBot’s DualPower and DualBackup systems. A built-in 10,000mAh rechargeable battery is rated for up to 12 months of typical use, while a CR123A backup battery provides up to 500 emergency unlocks. A USB-C emergency power port is also included, although this only provides temporary power and does not charge the lock.

The Lock Vision Series also uses mmWave radar to detect when someone approaches the door, activating biometric recognition only when needed. Battery status and low-battery alerts are available through the SwitchBot app. The locks can also work with other SwitchBot devices. When used with the SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell, users can monitor visitors and remotely unlock the door, while SwitchBot’s Wallet Finder Card can be used as an NFC key.

You can purchase the Lock Vision and Lock Vision Pro from Amazon.com today, priced at US$129.99 and US$189.99 respectively, when using the relevant coupons.
