Govee’s New TV Backlight 3 Offers Dual Cameras and Matter
Govee has announced the TV Backlight 3, its latest camera-based ambient lighting system for TVs, with Matter support included.
The new model uses a dual-camera system with 4MP resolving power and a hybrid glass-plastic lens, designed to improve colour detection from the screen. Govee says this offers double the resolving power of the previous generation, along with around 30% better image clarity compared to conventional 2MP lenses.
The system divides the screen into up to 24 independent zones, allowing the rear lighting to match different areas of the image rather than producing a single colour wash. It also uses AI content filters to adjust the lighting style depending on what is being watched.
The backlight strip itself uses high-density RGBWIC LEDs with a dedicated white channel, with 60 LEDs per metre. Govee claims this results in around 20% higher brightness than the previous generation, along with smoother transitions and more accurate colour reproduction. Gamma calibration and white-light blending are also used to improve low-saturation colours and maintain consistency across different brightness levels.
The camera module is designed to be compact and attaches to the TV using adhesive, with no drilling or tools required. Through the Govee Home app, users can access preset scenes, Music Mode, and DreamView, which can synchronise lighting across up to 10 compatible Govee devices.
For Apple Home users, the main point of interest is Matter support. Govee states that the TV Backlight 3 works with Matter and can be integrated with Apple Home, as well as Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. As with most Matter lighting products, this will allow basic control in Apple Home, while more advanced effects, DreamView features, and calibration settings are will remain within the Govee app.
The Govee TV Backlight 3 is available now via Amazon.com. The 55~65in version is priced at US$109.99, while the 75~85in version is priced at US$139.99.
