LIFX Matter-Compatible Smart Dimmer Switch Now Available
LIFX has officially released its Smart Dimmer Switch, a Matter-certified wall switch designed to bring smart lighting control to existing installations without requiring users to replace their current bulbs.
Originally unveiled at CES 2026, the Smart Dimmer combines traditional wall-mounted dimming with smart home functionality, offering support for both standard dimmable bulbs and LIFX smart lights. The device installs in place of an existing switch and functions as a conventional dimmer from day one, with no hub, app, or internet connection required for basic operation.
MATTER OVER WI-FI CONNECTIVITY
The Smart Dimmer connects directly to a home’s 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and supports Matter over Wi-Fi, allowing it to integrate with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and other Matter-compatible platforms. Once connected, users can control lighting through their preferred smart home ecosystem, create automations and schedules, and use voice assistants such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Matter support also allows the switch to interact with other compatible devices throughout the home, regardless of manufacturer. The switch requires a neutral wire, which will exclude some users, unfortunately.
UP TO 12 PROGRAMMABLE ACTIONS
In addition to lighting control, the Smart Dimmer incorporates four customisable buttons that can be assigned to scenes, routines, and smart home actions. Each button supports single-press, double-press, and long press gestures, providing up to 12 programmable actions from a single switch. These shortcuts can be used to activate lighting scenes, trigger automations, or control other Matter-compatible devices connected to the same ecosystem.
8-ZONE GRADIENT LIGHT BAR
A standout feature of the Smart Dimmer is its integrated 8-zone gradient light bar, which provides instant visual feedback for brightness levels and device status. The illuminated bar allows users to quickly identify the current dimming level without needing to open an app, whilst also adding a modern visual element to the switch itself.
DESIGNED FOR TRADITIONAL AND SMART LIGHTING
LIFX says the Smart Dimmer is designed to work equally well with traditional dimmable lighting and smart lighting installations. Users can retain familiar wall-mounted controls whilst benefiting from advanced smart home features when required. The switch supports both single-pole and three-way wiring configurations, making it suitable for a variety of residential installations. It also works alongside LIFX smart lights, allowing users to combine physical controls with app-based automation and scene management.
Whilst many smart lighting products rely heavily on mobile apps and voice assistants, LIFX is positioning the Smart Dimmer as a more tactile alternative that keeps everyday controls where users expect them to be – on the wall. By combining physical dimming, Matter compatibility, programmable controls, and direct Wi-Fi connectivity, the Smart Dimmer offers a flexible upgrade path for users looking to add smart home functionality without replacing every bulb in their home.
The LIFX Smart Dimmer Switch is available on Amazon.com for US$49.99. It was briefly listed as US$34.99, although it may return to this price during Amazon’s Prime Day sales.

Showing $49.99 on Amazon for me, and it’s important to note that this requires a neutral wire.
Yes, it requires a neutral wire.
The price is $49.95 on Amazon today. Also, there’s no mention of neutral wire requirements. Does it require one?
They must have just hiked the price as Matter Alpha also reports the price as $34.99. I suspect the price will come back down to $34.99 when Prime day kicks in.
yes, a neutral wire is required unfortunately.
Seems like there’s less Thread these days except Aqara (and Inovelli, which I have and for the most part love!).
