Aqara Releases Regional Version of the S100 Touchscreen Switch
Aqara has released a new version of its S100 Touchscreen Switch, designed specifically for markets that use horizontally mounted US-style electrical back boxes, including Taiwan. Whilst retaining the same core functionality as the existing North American model, the revised design makes the S100 suitable for homes where this style of switch installation is commonly used.
The new model expands the availability of Aqara’s flagship smart wall switch without requiring changes to local electrical standards, giving users access to a multifunction smart home controller in a format designed for their region. Like the North American model, this variant still requires a neutral wire.
DESIGNED FOR LOCAL INSTALLATIONS
Although visually familiar, the key difference with this version of the S100 is its horizontal layout. The redesigned housing allows it to fit the horizontal US-style wall boxes commonly found in Taiwan and certain other markets, whilst maintaining the same premium appearance and feature set. Aqara has also reconfigured the two physical switches so they retain a natural downward pressing action. Without this change, simply rotating the North American version for horizontal installation would leave the switches operating sideways instead. For homeowners and installers, this means the S100 can be integrated into existing electrical installations without the need for adapters or modifications.
TOUCHSCREEN CONTROL
Alongside the two physical switches, the S100 features a 3.95” colour touchscreen that provides direct access to compatible Aqara devices, scenes and automations. The display is designed to offer an intuitive way to interact with the smart home, allowing users to control multiple accessories from a single wall-mounted interface. The screen can also be customised with different layouts and wallpapers, allowing users to tailor the interface to their own preferences.
MATTER AND THREAD
Beyond its role as a smart switch, the S100 also functions as a Thread Border Router. Alongside native Matter support over Wi-Fi, this allows it to bridge compatible Thread devices to the local network within supported ecosystems. As more smart home devices adopt Matter and Thread, the S100 is well positioned to become a valuable component of a modern smart home, whilst also providing convenient touchscreen control of Aqara devices and automations through the Aqara Home platform.
AVAILABILITY
Whilst this release does not introduce new functionality compared to the North American version, it represents an important expansion of the S100’s availability. By redesigning the switch for horizontally mounted US-style electrical back boxes, Aqara is making its flagship smart wall controller accessible to users in Taiwan and other compatible markets, bringing its combination of touchscreen control, Matter support and smart home integration to a broader audience.

Looks fantastic and one can imagine the extra functionality via the touch screen could be useful but they still don’t include any versions with built-in dimmer control.
I really cannot understand why these Chinese manufacturers are so incapable of making and selling their own dimmer products. (The many US products that have dimmer capability are highly likely manufactured in Chinese factories after all.)
Aqara does make a dimmer switch, although not one with an included display unfortunately.
This would be nice as in Australia we will do our switches in either orientation. Even though our outlets are just about always horizontal.
