Tapo Launches Budget RV30 Max Plus Gen2 Robot Vacuum For Europe
Tapo has launched its latest robot vacuum and mop in the UK and Europe, with the new Tapo RV30 Max Plus Gen2 offering Matter compatibility, 13,000Pa suction, LiDAR navigation, a compact docking station, and an auto-empty dock, for just UK£299.99.
The new model combines vacuuming and mopping and represents a significant increase in suction power compared with its predecessor. Tapo claims the 13,000Pa maximum suction represents a 245% increase over the previous generation, with the vacuum designed for use on both hard floors and carpets. For smart home users, however, another notable addition is Matter support, allowing the RV30 Max Plus Gen2 to be added to compatible Matter ecosystems rather than relying solely on the Tapo app.
Note: Interestingly, some listings for the RV30 Max Plus Gen2 also show Matter compatibility, although Tapo’s UK product page currently makes no mention of Matter support. Tapo does, however, list the Gen2 as Matter compatible on its Australian robot vacuum comparison page, so we’ve contacted the company for clarification.
MATTER SUPPORT
Matter support brings the RV30 Max Plus Gen2 into the wider smart home ecosystem, allowing compatible platforms to recognise and control the robot vacuum. The functionality available through Matter will depend on the platform being used, with the Tapo app continuing to provide access to the vacuum’s more advanced cleaning and mapping features. Amazon Alexa is also supported for voice control, allowing users to start and stop cleaning using voice commands.
13,000PA SUCTION AND ANTI-TANGLE SYSTEM
The RV30 Max Plus Gen2 offers up to 13,000Pa of suction, which Tapo says is 245% more powerful than the previous generation. The increased suction is designed to deal with dust and larger debris across hard flooring, rugs, and carpets. Tapo has also equipped the new model with an anti-tangle brush system designed to deal with pet and longer human hair. Hair caught around the brush is cut and cleared to reduce the amount of manual maintenance required. A dedicated Pet Hair Collection mode can increase the frequency with which the robot empties its onboard dustbin, helping prevent excessive amounts of hair from accumulating between cleaning sessions.
AUTO-EMPTY MINI-DOCK
The accompanying auto-empty dock has been designed to take up less space than larger robot vacuum stations, making it potentially better suited to smaller homes and locations where floor space is limited. The dock uses a 3.3-litre dust bag, with Tapo claiming this can provide up to 90 days of hands-free operation before the bag needs to be replaced, although the actual interval will naturally depend on how frequently the vacuum is used and the amount of debris collected. Unlike some larger all-in-one robot vacuum docks, the station is focused on automatic dust collection rather than washing and drying the mop or automatically managing clean and dirty water.
LIDAR NAVIGATION AND MOPPING
Navigation is handled by dToF LiDAR, allowing the RV30 Max Plus Gen2 to map its surroundings and plan cleaning routes around the home. Maps can subsequently be used within the Tapo app to manage individual rooms and different floor types, including the creation of carpet zones and no-mop areas. The robot can vacuum and mop simultaneously, with intelligent water dispensing used to control the amount of water supplied to the mop. Tapo states that the robot can cover up to 100m² when vacuuming and mopping.
