IKEA DUBBELKISEL Brings Matter Over Thread to Cabinet Lighting
After surfacing online here and there over the last couple of months, IKEA has now officially released the DUBBELKISEL, a new Matter-over-Thread LED driver designed for the company’s integrated kitchen, cabinet, and wardrobe lighting.
The 30W driver replaces the previous 30W TRÅDFRI model (with Zigbee) and allows compatible IKEA lighting to be switched on, switched off, and dimmed through a smart home platform or optional wireless remote.
Unlike its Zigbee-based predecessor, DUBBELKISEL uses Matter over Thread. This allows it to connect directly to Apple Home and other Matter platforms through a compatible Thread Border Router, without necessarily requiring IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub.
DIRECT MATTER CONNECTIVITY
IKEA describes DIRIGERA as one example of a suitable Thread Border Router, rather than a requirement for all installations. Apple Home users should therefore be able to add DUBBELKISEL using a Thread-enabled HomePod or Apple TV.
Apple currently lists HomePod mini, HomePod 2nd gen, and compatible Apple TV 4K models among the devices capable of providing Thread connectivity. A supported third-party Thread Border Router can also be used. Apple’s support documentation confirms that Matter-over-Thread accessories can connect through these devices.
DIRIGERA is still required for users who want to manage DUBBELKISEL through the IKEA Home smart app. It may also provide access to additional IKEA-specific functions, although the driver’s basic lighting controls should be available through compatible Matter platforms.
The change makes DUBBELKISEL more flexible than the outgoing TRÅDFRI driver. The older model communicates using Zigbee and requires an IKEA hub or another compatible Zigbee coordinator for smart control. DUBBELKISEL instead joins the home’s Thread network and communicates directly using Matter.
PART OF IKEA’S MOVE TO MATTER
DUBBELKISEL forms part of IKEA’s wider move away from Zigbee for its new smart home products. In November 2025, the company announced that it was rebuilding its smart home range around Matter, beginning with 21 new lights, sensors, remotes, and smart plugs.
Existing Zigbee-based IKEA products are not being abandoned. DIRIGERA can continue to act as a Matter bridge, allowing older TRÅDFRI devices to appear in platforms such as Apple Home. However, newer Matter-over-Thread products can connect to those ecosystems without first being translated from Zigbee by the IKEA hub. IKEA describes the new range as the first stage of a broader overhaul.
SUPPORTS UP TO EIGHT LIGHTING UNITS
The initial DUBBELKISEL model has a maximum output of 30W and can power as many as eight compatible lighting units, provided their combined consumption does not exceed that limit. Up to ten DUBBELKISEL drivers can be included in one installation. IKEA has also included an overload warning that causes the connected lights to flash if the maximum wattage is exceeded.
The driver accepts a 220-240V supply and provides a 24V output for connected lights. It measures 205 × 55 × 18mm and weighs 150g, allowing it to be installed inside a wardrobe or cupboard using the two mounting hooks. Standby and networked standby consumption are both listed at less than 0.35W, while full-load efficiency is rated at 90 per cent.
POWER CORD SOLD SEPARATELY
As with the previous TRÅDFRI driver, DUBBELKISEL does not include the mains power cable. IKEA’s FÖRNIMMA power supply cord must be purchased separately. A remote control is also optional and sold separately. Alternatively, users can control and automate the connected lighting through IKEA Home smart, Apple Home, or another compatible Matter platform.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
DUBBELKISEL is beginning to appear across European IKEA stores. The 30W version, carrying product number 506.094.44, is currently listed for €22 in Germany and €17.99 in Portugal. IKEA Sweden lists it for SEK 300.
At the time of writing, DUBBELKISEL has not appeared on IKEA’s UK or US websites, and the company has not announced release dates or local pricing for either market.

Got one last week to replace one of my three trådfri drivers. Installation worked flawless and it is rapid in response. The dim levels where exactly as the old so replacing them in automations took seconds. With Thread Tools I can’t see any higher level of errors or discards (as one of the IKEA Kajplats E27 bulbs had lots of).
Which country did you purchase your driver from if you don’t mind me asking?
