Govee Unveils Two New Matter-Compatible Smart Lights

Govee has revealed two new smart lighting products, with the Govee Wallwash Table Lamp aimed at indoor ambient lighting, alongside the Govee Ball Lights, designed to bring colourful lighting effects to outdoor spaces. Both products include Matter support, allowing them to be added to compatible smart home platforms, including Apple Home.

GOVEE WALLWASH TABLE LAMP

The Govee Wallwash Table Lamp (H1771) combines two independently controllable light sources in a single compact unit. A front-facing light provides more conventional illumination, while a separate rear light is designed to wash the wall behind the lamp with colour.

The two lighting elements can be adjusted independently for both colour and brightness, allowing the lamp to provide functional lighting at the front while simultaneously producing ambient effects behind it.

The main light uses RGBWW LEDs and produces up to 300 lumens, while the rear section uses Govee’s RGBWWIC technology and provides an additional 70 lumens. The latter allows different sections of the light to display different colours simultaneously, rather than limiting the entire light source to a single colour.

Govee is also using its 16-bit LuminBlend+ technology for the wall-washing element, which the company says produces smoother and richer transitions between colours.

White colour temperature adjustment covers an unusually broad 1,000K to 10,000K range, extending from very warm illumination suitable for evening use through to much cooler white light.

LIGHTING THAT CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE DAY

One of the more interesting features is Govee’s DaySync system. This allows users to create a lighting routine that automatically changes throughout the day, with lighting behaviour also able to respond to sunrise, sunset, and weather conditions.

More than 80 preset scenes are available, along with music synchronisation for effects that react to audio.

The lamp also supports Govee’s AI Lighting Bot 2.0. Users can describe the lighting effect they want using text or voice, or provide an image as inspiration, with the system generating a corresponding lighting effect. The result can subsequently be refined through further interaction with the AI assistant.

Control is available through the Govee Home app, voice assistants, and physical controls on the lamp itself. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are provided for connectivity, while Matter support allows the lamp to be integrated with compatible third-party smart home ecosystems.

The lamp measures approximately 15.5cm in diameter and 12.5cm high, with a smaller 7.2cm diameter base, and has a rated power consumption of 18W.

GOVEE BALL LIGHTS

The second new product takes Govee’s lighting technology outdoors. The Govee Ball Lights (H6850) consist of 30cm (12-inch) spherical lights designed for gardens, courtyards, patios, and seasonal outdoor displays.

Each sphere contains 140 individually controllable LEDs, using Govee’s RGBIC technology to produce multiple colours simultaneously.

Govee also lists what it calls Uni-IC technology, which, combined with RGBIC and individual LED control, is intended to create more detailed multi-layered and flowing lighting effects across the surface of each sphere.

As with the Wallwash Table Lamp, more than 80 preset scenes are available. Users can also create their own effects through the Govee Home app, as well as combine the lights with other compatible Govee products using the company’s DreamView system.

AI Lighting Bot 2.0 is once again included, allowing lighting effects to be generated from voice commands, text descriptions, or images.

DESIGNED FOR YEAR-ROUND OUTDOOR USE

Unsurprisingly for an outdoor product, weather protection is an important part of the design. The Ball Lights carry an IP67 rating, providing protection against dust and water, while Govee states they can operate in temperatures as low as -20ºC (-4ºF).

The physical construction has also been designed with seasonal installations in mind. Each sphere uses a foldable metal frame that can be assembled in three steps and collapsed again for more compact storage when the lights aren’t being used. Power is supplied from a 200-240V AC adapter, with the lights themselves operating at 5V DC, 3A.

MATTER SUPPORT FOR BOTH PRODUCTS

Both new lights support Matter, alongside Amazon Alexa and Google Home, which should make them usable within a wider range of smart home ecosystems without relying solely on Govee’s own app.

For Apple Home users, Matter is the important inclusion here, as neither product is listed with native Apple HomeKit support. Once commissioned through Matter, the lights should provide the standard lighting controls made available through Matter and Apple Home, while more advanced features such as Govee’s scenes, DreamView, music synchronisation, DaySync, and AI-generated lighting effects are likely to remain within the Govee Home app.

Both products continue Govee’s focus on decorative smart lighting, although they approach it from very different directions. The Wallwash Table Lamp is a relatively compact indoor product that combines practical and ambient lighting, while the much larger Ball Lights are primarily intended to turn outdoor spaces into colourful decorative displays.
