Meross Announce New Matter Smart Hub, Four New Sensor Kits

Meross has opened pre-orders for its MSH450P Matter Smart Hub Pro and four sensor kits covering temperature and humidity, doors, water leaks, and programmable controls. The company expects orders to begin shipping on 28 September.

The battery-powered devices connect to the hub over Bluetooth Low Energy which is likely going to put many Apple Home users off, unfortunately. The hub provides Matter connectivity for platforms including Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and Home Assistant. They are therefore hub-based Matter accessories, rather than sensors that join a Matter network directly.

A NEW HUB FOR OLD AND NEW SENSORS

The MSH450P connects to a home network through Ethernet or 2.4GHz WiFi and supports up to 32 Meross devices. Alongside Bluetooth for the new sensors, it retains a 433MHz radio for compatible existing Meross accessories. Meross says owners of its previous MSH450 hub can migrate devices to the new model with one tap.

The hub can announce events aloud, such as a door opening or a water leak, with customisable messages and multiple language options. Meross also says local alarms on the hub and compatible sensors continue to work if the network becomes unavailable.

FOUR MULTI-FUNCTION DEVICES
  • The MS120H measures temperature and humidity, with a 1.9-inch display and an adjustable alarm rated at up to 100dB. It also provides dew point, absolute humidity, and vapour pressure deficit readings. Meross rates its replaceable battery for up to three years.
  • The MS220H detects whether a door or window is open or closed, and adds adjustable vibration detection and alerts for a door left open or closed. It includes a local buzzer, a doorway light, a doorbell mode, and a button that Meross says can trigger automations. Its stated battery life is up to three years.
  • The MS420H expands on Meross’s existing leak sensor with detection for leaks, rain or drips, freezing conditions, and water level. It includes an adjustable buzzer rated at up to 100dB and a 1.5-metre extension probe for harder-to-reach locations. Meross claims up to four years of battery life.
  • The MS700H is a programmable button device with three switchable screens and up to nine custom controls in total. It also displays environmental readings, including temperature and humidity, and can sound an alert when another device detects an event. Meross rates its battery for up to two and a half years.

All four devices carry an IP66 rating and a stated operating range of -20°C/-4ºF to 60°C/140ºF.

APPLE HOME FUNCTIONALITY REMAINS TO BE SEEN

Meross describes functions such as vibration alerts, doorbell mode, combined water-detection conditions, and the MS700H’s nine controls. However, its press release does not establish which of these will appear in Apple Home through Matter. Feature availability may differ between platforms, so buyers interested in a particular Apple Home automation should check how that function is exposed before ordering.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

According to Meross, pre-orders are open through its official store. The MSH450P hub is listed at a pre-sale price of US$26.99. The MS120H, MS220H, and MS420H cost US$22.99 each as individual sensors, or US$43.99 each in a starter kit with the hub. The MS700H costs US$28.99 on its own or US$42.99 with the hub. All four sensors require the MSH450P.
