I just bought this and can really recommend it! Open ups a new world for HomeKit users.
I am looking at this as a replacement for my SmartThings Hub following Samsungs slow removal of services.
I always seem to pat out a fortune for equipment for it to only become redundant a few years later.
Hence, my interest for Thinka as i do live using the Apple HomeKit ecosystem and want a system that ensures its security and HomeKit functionality.
I am however apprehensive due to the price and only seeing one review. I will search online and see if i can find any more information before making my purchase as it is expensive if Thinka is only supported for a short time period
Hi Stephen, I can understand your concern about ongoing support, and of course the initial cost. If you have a lot of Z-Wave products, then I think it may make sense to get something like this hub if you equate the cost of replacing your Z-Wave devices with new HomeKit products, versus the cost of the hub itself. Personally, when Thinka contacted me about this forthcoming hub I was sceptical, and even a bit dismissive of what they claimed it could achieve, but I was soon won over after trying it out for myself and realised they would really have put their reputation on the line if the box didn’t do what it claims.
They informed me that this project has been a long time in the making (years), so I really can’t see them abandoning something that took so much effort to create and certify, as well as putting customers at risk by dropping support. Bear in mind that the hub is really only a gateway to other manufacturers’ devices, and so there’s only the hub for them to provide support for, which is a good thing. I know some other reviewers who have been testing this out, and I’ve seen the same feedback. smartapfel.de did a review (in German), there’s an Instagram ‘influencer’ (@homewithapple) with a reasonably large following who has been testing it out and seems very happy with it, along with a fellow YouTuber (Modern Day Tech), who has yet to put his review together, but has been testing it out and has had no issues with it other than learning a bit more about the way Z-Wave does things.
It’s your call of course, and I don’t make any money by saying one thing or another on this product, but I think it’s good, if you can absorb the price.
What is the difference with this product than
Zemismart Homekit Zigbee Hub, ZMHK-01 Smart Home Bridge,Smart Home control curtain, light, switch, sensor
USD $49.56
It’s a whole lot cheaper and can make a lot of difference. I want a stable platform that will be supported unlike SmartThings
Hi, the Thinka hub is purely for Z-Wave devices, but will work with any manufacturer. The ZemiSmart hub will only work with Zigbee devices, and even then only ZemiSmart devices or some Tuya certified Zigbee devices.
