Hubitat Update Adds Support for Matter and Aqara
Hubitat has released platform update 2.3.9.192, an upgrade to the earlier version 2.3.9. This update introduces built-in support for Matter Bridge devices, new drivers for Aqara Zigbee and Matter devices, and expands device compatibility for the Google Home integration.
With this update, Hubitat Elevation home automation hubs now support Aqara devices and Matter Bridges. Users can add Matter Bridge devices, such as the Aqara Hub M3 or Philips Hue Bridge, directly to their Hubitat hub without needing integration apps or custom code. Future updates are expected to extend this support to other Matter Bridge devices.
The update also includes built-in drivers for various Aqara devices, including the Aqara LED Strip T1, Aqara Smart Plug, and several switches, relays, and sensors. Aqara Zigbee devices can be paired directly with the hub or through the Aqara M3 Hub as a Matter Bridge. Aqara Thread devices can be added via the Aqara M3 Hub over Matter. Future updates are likely to add support for more Aqara devices.
The Google Home Integration app has also been improved, now supporting additional device types. Users can control fans, locks, garage doors, blinds, and valves through Google Home. Sensors such as temperature, contact, and humidity sensors can also be linked directly to Google Home from Hubitat.
This update demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement based on community feedback. Aqara device support has been highly requested, and we’re pleased to offer expanded Matter support in this release.
Stefan Dyulgerov, President of Hubitat, said, “This update demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement based on community feedback. Aqara device support has been highly requested, and we’re pleased to offer expanded Matter support in this release.”
Platform update 2.3.9.192 is available for all current hub owners. Matter, including Matter Bridge support, is compatible with hub models C-5 and newer. Hubitat Elevation hubs can be purchased at Hubitat.com or Amazon.com from US$139.95, if you use the US$10 OFF coupon.

Aqara Thread devices can be added directly without needing an Aqara hub, they are MATTER over Thread. Any Thread hub will work.
The information in the article is based on the company’s own press release, so if you think they’re wrong, you should maybe let them know. Whilst any Thread Border Router (not a ‘Thread Hub’) is theoretically of use in a separate platform for Thread, the article is more likely referring to the possibility that someone doesn’t already have a Thread Border Router, and therefore, in the case of Aqara Thread devices, would need the M3.
Not for pairing though. They use BLE. It’s not as straight forward as you are making it sound.
