Switchbot Unveil Multiple New Home Security Devices
Switchbot has announced the most diverse set of products at CES 2025, which includes the K10+ Pro household robot, the S20 Pro robot vac series, and now a couple of devices relating to home security, starting with the…
Switchbot Lock Ultra
Building on the success of the SwitchBot Lock Pro (video HERE, review HERE) from last year, the SwitchBot Lock Ultra promises to enhance smart home security with an adaptable, retrofit-friendly design.
Switchbot claim it fits 99.9% of existing locks, including deadbolt, mortise, and Jimmy Proof locks, making it an good option for both renters and homeowners. In rare cases where standard installation isn’t possible, 3D-printed custom solutions are also available.
The Lock Ultra features the FastUnlock™ System, enabling fast unlocking speeds and supporting up to 16 unlocking methods, such as fingerprint recognition, app control, NFC cards, and voice commands via Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.
Additionally, its triple-power system should virtually eliminate the risk of being locked out due to power loss, ensuring reliability in any condition. This includes a rechargeable battery that provides up to 9 months of service between recharges, or an extra large rechargeable battery for 12 months running time.
The Lock Ultra is also equipped with a six-layer protection system, which includes AES-128 encryption, tamper alerts, auto-lock functionality, and more. It integrates with the SwitchBot Ecosystem and supports Matter (via SwitchBot Matter-enabled hubs), making it compatible with Apple HomeKit and other smart home platforms for a more integrated experience.
There’s currently no mention of Apple HomeKey or UWB at this point, so take that as you will.
Switchbot Video Doorbell
The SwitchBot Video Doorbell features a 4.3-inch portable display, designed for ease of use by seniors, children or anyone less inclined to use smart home tech. Its built-in Wi-Fi relay function (much like the chime for Aqara’s G4) should endure smooth streaming and functionality, even during network outages. With a 20-month battery life and low-power wireless connectivity to the monitor, the system supports up to 512GB of local storage (sold separately) without the need for monthly fees. Additionally, the built-in 100dB chime ensures you never miss a visitor and serves as a gateway for SwitchBot lock products, including the aforementioned Switchbot Lock Ultra.
Offering 2K ultra-HD resolution, colour night vision, and a 165° wide-angle view, the SwitchBot Video Doorbell only currently integrates with Alexa. It supports AI motion detection, and allows for remote app monitoring. Installation is quick and easy, taking just 3 minutes with adhesive or screws, and requires no wall modifications. The portable SwitchBot Monitor can be placed on a table or mounted on a wall, wherever a power outlet is available, eliminating the need for complex wiring. Whilst Matter has yet to support cameras or video doorbells, it’s hoped this will be Matter enabled once support for this device category arrives.
