New Facial Recognition Lock, Hub 3 Released by SwitchBot

SwitchBot has today announced the launch of two new products – SwitchBot Lock Ultra Vision Combo and SwitchBot Hub 3 – designed to deliver a smarter, and possibly more innovative smart home experience.

The new SwitchBot Lock Ultra Vision Combo is claimed to be the world’s first retrofittable smart lock to work with 3D facial recognition, featuring as part of a bundle, the SwitchBot Lock Ultra, Keypad Vision, and Hub Mini (Matter Enabled).

Highlighting the 3D facial recognition system, which employs over 30,000 infrared points to create a high-resolution, millimeter-level facial map for authentication. Recognition is almost instantaneous – within one second – and highly secure, with a false recognition rate of less than 0.0001% and facial maps secured locally with an AES-128 bank-level encryption system. The system functions in a wide range of conditions, including low-light environments, due to the built-in 850nm infrared light.

With up to 18 unlocking methods (a slight exaggeration to be honest) – including facial recognition, auto unlock, NFC cards, semi-conductive fingerprint recognition, app control, and voice commands – SwitchBot Lock Ultra Vision Combo admittedly offers a lot of versatility. Designed for nearly universal compatibility, the device can be installed on 99.9% of existing locks, such as Night Latch, Mortise, and Jimmy Proof etc., without the need for drilling or structural modification.

The FastUnlock™ system offers near-instant unlocking by maintaining an always-on Bluetooth connection with the Keypad Vision. Equipped with an advanced motor that is 122.2% faster and 10.5% stronger in torque than its predecessor, it offers even quieter operation, measuring as low as 20dB while working on its own. In addition to the various modes of High Speed, Default, and Quiet, the Lock Ultra Vision Combo also provides a specially designed Night Mode, enabling auto locking at a specific time, creating an even quieter door entry experience at night time.

Moreover, SwitchBot Lock Ultra Vision Combo also features a three-tier battery design designed for increased resilience that includes a large rechargeable main battery that should last up from 9~12 months, a backup CR123A cell, and an electrolytic emergency unlocking system for the most ultra reliability even in emergencies when the main battery is out of power. Meanwhile, the device also boasts an ultra-thin design with three wooden pattern pads and a 6-tier security system for ultimate peace of mind with ultra security.

An additional part of its latest product lineup, the company has released the Hub 3, a Matter-compatible smart home hub designed to unify device control across platforms while offering extended support for infrared (IR) products and home automation routines.

WIDE COMPATIBILITY AND MATTER INTEGRATION

The SwitchBot Hub 3 supports integration with over 100,000 IR devices – including legacy appliances such as TVs and air conditioners – as well as the wider SwitchBot ecosystem. Crucially, it also acts as a Matter Bridge, enabling SwitchBot accessories to be recognised within Apple Home and other Matter-supported ecosystems.

In addition to device bridging, the Hub 3 can issue up to 30 programmable commands for triggering automation scenes. These can include Matter-compatible products from third-party brands already connected to Apple Home, effectively centralising control of multiple ecosystems into a single interface.

The device features Dial Master™, a rotary controller that allows for tactile, granular adjustments to settings such as volume or temperature. It also includes customisable scene buttons and monitors real-time environmental data, both indoor and outdoor.

Users can create custom automation routines using the Hub’s built-in sensors, enabling energy-efficient behaviours or comfort-based triggers based on preset thresholds.

It’s important to note, however, that the Hub 3 is not a Matter Controller, and will not be able to integrate third-party Matter devices into the Switchbot ecosystem.
