Thorbolt Planning budget Thread Deadbolt without Keypad

Fresh from the recent launch of their X1 Smart Deadbolt lock, Thorbolt are planning on offering another budget friendly deadbolt with a difference. Whilst the X1 has a keypad amongst its many features, the X3 will do away with the keypad entirely.

This means both a smaller overall size/footprint, but also a lower price tag. The logic behind the move is that whilst a keypad can be useful in many ways, in practice a lot of people don’t actually use their keypad at all.

With both the X1 and X3 sporting a variety of ways in which to unlock the door, it may come as no surprise that many won’t miss the keypad at all with such other unlock options as the biometric fingerprint sensor, Apple HomeKey, regular keys, access via the Apple Home/Sleekpoint apps, or via Siri and automations. Like the X1, the X3 also uses HomeKit over Thread for fast and reliable connectivity.

The X3 sports the same overall design, but due to the lack of a keypad, the outer assembly is smaller, at only 110mm/4.33in in height (compared to 155mm/6.1in), whilst the inner assembly remains the same.

The front of the X3 now only features the fingerprint sensor, the NFC area for using HomeKey, and the same covered panel that houses both the keyhole and a USB-C port for emergency charging, should your batteries run out unexpectedly.
