Govee Adds Edison Style Bulbs to Matter Lineup

Govee has introduced a new Matter over WiFi LED Edison bulb designed to combine vintage styling with modern smart lighting features. The bulb adopts the familiar filament aesthetic associated with traditional Edison lamps, but integrates connected functionality intended for use within smart home platforms compatible with Matter as well as Govee’s own ecosystem.

The lamp offers adjustable brightness and colour, and colour temperature controls, allowing users to tailor lighting output to suit different settings such as living areas, dining spaces, or work environments. The exposed filament design aims to deliver a decorative lighting effect while still providing practical illumination levels comparable to standard LED bulbs. It should be noted, however, that these are designed more for the decorative or aesthetic side of things than brightness, as they top out at just 500lm.

In comparison to some older LED-based Edison style bulbs, like the original Philips Hue models we reviewed (review HERE), these offer both warm and cool white as well as colour.

Smart control is available through the Govee Home app or your Matter platform of choice, enabling remote operation, scheduling, and automation. Voice assistant compatibility is also supported (eg Siri, Alexa etc), allowing the bulb to be controlled through Matter compatible ecosystems using spoken commands. These features are intended to simplify everyday lighting adjustments and support broader automation routines within connected households.

In addition to manual and app-based controls, the bulb supports preset lighting scenes (via the Govee app) designed to create specific moods or ambience. This functionality may appeal to users looking to integrate decorative lighting into entertainment or relaxation scenarios without requiring separate luminaires or fixtures. It’s not clear if these bulbs support Apple’s Adaptive Lighting feature, although many Matter bulbs now do.

Energy efficiency remains a core aspect of the product’s design, with LED technology providing lower power consumption and longer operational lifespan compared with traditional incandescent Edison-style bulbs. This positions the device as a decorative alternative that shouldn’t significantly compromise on efficiency or longevity.

Overall, the Govee LED Edison bulb is aimed at users seeking a balance between retro visual appeal and modern smart lighting capabilities, offering connected control features while retaining the aesthetic qualities associated with classic filament lighting.

You can purchase the new Matter Edison bulbs in a 4-pack from Amazon.com, priced at US$59.99 (with coupon – US$15.00 per bulb), or you can buy a 2-pack directly from Govee’s store for US$39.99 (US$20.00 per bulb).
