Using Home Assistant to Connect Ring Doorbell to HomeKit
If you’re interested in adding more devices to your SmartHome, please consider visiting my Amazon affiliates store. You pay the same, but it really helps to support me in continuing to create new content.

Ring is the dominant player in smart doorbells these days. Unfortunately, after promising Homekit support more than three years ago ( announced in 2016) they have been unable to deliver on their commitment to their customers.
Fortunately, HomeAssistant can help us to deal with some of the pain.
In this video, we’ll look at first adding the Ring component to your existing HomeAssistant setup (see https://youtu.be/3tutxHO0J78 for more info if you haven’t gotten that set up yet).
Once that’s done we’ll do a quick tour of what gets exposed to Homekit.
The final assessment is that it’s just not worth the effort unless you’re REALLY focused about making sure you have everything in a single spot. I guess we just keep hoping that Ring will actually deliver on its promises, I’m not holding my breath though.
Have you heard of Homebridge? Check out the homebridge-ring-alarm plug-in, which also exposes the Ring camera to HomeKit. Using Hass for this alone seems useless.
Surprised you wouldn’t have recommended a more native integration using homebridge. The intent of both platforms is totally different it seems to me, homebridge is about connecting devices to HomeKit while homeassistant is designed primarily to do the same things as HomeKit.
