Apple Announce HomePod Mini in More Colours
At Apple’s surprise October 18th event, which was mostly expected to be about a new M1 Mac Book Pro, Apple threw a bit of a curveball, with the announcement of the HomePod Mini in three additional colours – Blue, Orange, and Yellow, adding to the existing Space Grey and white variants. These new variants are, of course, no different to the original Minis save for the new colours, and as such are selling for the same basic price of US$99.00. The new colours also come with power cords to match.
The presentation of these new colours went hand in hand with a new lower-priced, individual Apple Music tier called the Apple Music Voice plan, which offers the same access to Apple’s extensive music streaming library, whilst removing options such as Spatial and Lossless Audio, Lyrics view, and the ability to download music for offline listening.
Of course, the HomePod Mini isn’t just for listening to audio, as it contains Siri that allows you to not only ask questions or get information, but also control your smart home, as it’s a full Home Hub, like the Apple TV and original HomePod. It was also the first Apple device to come with a Thread wireless built-in that allows it to act as a Thread Border Router (followed by the 2021 Apple TV4K) that allows it to interact with Thread smart home devices from the likes of Eve and Nanoleaf, as well as traditional Bluetooth devices.
The new colours will launch this November in the following countries and regions; United States, Australia, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
No other HomeKit related announcements were made, as expected, but the additional colours are a welcome plus, even if many of us may already have enough HomePods Mini!
