Meross Launches Three New Matter Devices
Meross has announced three new Matter enabled devices, two of which are ostensibly designed for Europe. Additionally, these two are Matter over WiFi, whilst the single item requires a Meross hub in order to get it into your Matter ecosystem of choice.
The first of these is of most interest to European users who have external roller blinds that are controlled from the inside. The Smart Roller Shutter Belt Winder is designed to replace the existing electrical control panel you may have installed. This appears to be the very first belt winder to support Apple Home or Matter, which will simply appear as a roller blind in the Apple Home app.
The unit is TUV CE certified, using built-in sensors for safely purposes. It can also auto detect the upper and lower limits of your blinds, and although calibration (presumably via the Meross app) is not a requirement, without full calibration, the belt winder will only fully open or close your shutters, thus not allowing partial opening or closing.
The motor can also auto-disengage in the event of a power outage, allowing for manual control of the shutters.
Also included is a light sensor that can be used to automatically close the blinds in situations where shade from bright sunlight is preferable. It’s not clear from the listing whether the light sensor is exposed to Apple Home/Matter or not, or if it’s solely accessible via the Meross app.
The second item destined for Europe is (yet another…) outdoor plug. This is a dual outlet device, that also includes energy monitoring. Each outlet is exposed separately, allowing individual control of devices connected to it, and comes with a 1.5m power cable. The outlet covers offer IP44 waterproof rating, which isn’t the highest you might find, but usually suitable enough. Meross also state that one of the two outlets is designed to monitor power generation from any solar power system you might have installed, although power monitoring requires the Meross app. The dual outlet suited for 16A/3680w, and also offers overload protection.
The third and final Matter product can be used anywhere, although it does require Meross own Smart Hub MS450MA in order to expose it to Matter. Aside from the standard temperature and humidity metrics, there’s also ‘light detection’, and via the Meross app, you can also view details pertaining to the dew point temperature, and saturated vapour pressure.
The unit comes with a large, 7.3in LED screen, that displays temperature, humidity, light, time, date, and other information. The top of the unit offers up two customisable buttons, although these can only be programmable via the Meross app, which in turn means only Meross devices can be controlled via these buttons.
The display, whilst not using E-ink, does have a back light, which can be triggered to turn on by simply tapping on either the device itself, or the surface it resides on. Power for the unit is via four included AA batteries, with up to 3 years of life between changes.
All three items are now available for purchase via Meross’ own online store.
