Aqara’s New Video Doorbell Offers a Lot of Extras

Aqara today announced, amongst other things, their Doorbell Camera Hub G410, which builds on its predecessor with a new 2K sensor for enhanced video quality and a built-in millimetre wave (mmWave) sensor for presence detection. As standard, videos are end-to-end encrypted to enhance privacy (via either Aqara’s own platform or Apple’s own HomeKit Secure Video), and the doorbell includes RTSP support for streaming to third-party clients, such as Home Assistant, within the local network.

With dual-band Wi-Fi, Thread, and Zigbee connectivity, the G410 serves as a smart home hub, supporting Aqara accessories and third-party Matter devices, in the same way the Aqara Hub M3 does. It’s compatible with platforms including Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings, and is one of the few battery-operated HomeKit Secure Video doorbells available.

Additional features include on-device facial recognition, the option for battery or wired installation, and support for both cloud and local storage.

2K Resolution and Enhanced Communication

The G410 features a 2K sensor with an f/2.0 wide-angle lens, delivering clear video and a wide field of view. It ensures detailed recordings, even in low-light conditions. A built-in microphone and speaker enable real-time communication with visitors via the mobile app or Aqara’s Panel Hub S1 Plus. Additionally, a 95dB chime repeater not only amplifies visitor notifications but also improves connection range and stability.

Smart Home Integration

The G410 functions as a hub for smart home devices, supporting dual-band Wi-Fi, Thread, and Zigbee protocols. Acting as both a Matter Controller and a Zigbee hub, it connects Aqara accessories and compatible third-party Matter devices. Users can integrate sensors, door locks, and lighting into a cohesive smart home system, both indoors and outdoors.

Platform Compatibility

The G410 integrates with Apple Home and supports HomeKit Secure Video, offering a convenient option for iOS users, including those seeking a battery-operated doorbell. It also streams to smart displays compatible with Alexa, Google Home, or SmartThings. With RTSP support, the doorbell can stream video to third-party systems like Home Assistant over a local network.

Flexible Installation Options

The G410 supports both battery and wired installation. It can be powered by six AA batteries, offering up to four months of usage, or connected to a 12-24V AC/DC power source for continuous operation.

Presence Detection and Facial Recognition

A built-in millimetre wave (mmWave) sensor accurately detects human presence, minimising false alerts caused by irrelevant movements. On-device AI facial recognition identifies visitors and can trigger notifications or custom automations. A tamper alert feature further enhances security.

Secure Storage Options

Video recordings are end-to-end encrypted to ensure privacy. Storage options include Aqara’s cloud service, iCloud, or local storage via a microSD card (up to 512GB), which is securely housed in the chime repeater to prevent tampering. The system also supports synchronisation with a local NAS for added flexibility.
