Eve Announces New Matter/Thread Dimmer Switch
As the smart world gets more accustomed to Matter and Thread, with releases and updates coming in at a decent rate, Eve has announced its first dimmer switch for the North American market.
The new dimmer uses Matter over Thread as standard for all Eve products going forward, although perhaps unsurprisingly, this new device requires a neutral wire, as does their current standard wall switch.
The Eve Dimmer offers both a paddle for controlling the switch in a direct on/off manner, but also has a side panel that allows for accurate dimming. This is achieved by simply pressing on the top (+) or bottom (-) of this strip to adjust the preferred brightness level.
As the switch is designed to seamlessly fit alongside existing switches in North American homes, it matches all the relevant dimension, coming in neutral white to allow it to blend in with the most popular colour option. Even the face plate can be replaced with one more suitable to your tastes.
The Dimmer is also compatible with Three-way arrangements, allowing you to have one Eve Dimmer controlling a set of lights at one end of a room or set of stairs, with another dimmer elsewhere to control the same set of lights. One switch can also be a standard dimmer as well, so you don’t need to purchase two Eve Dimmers to use it in this manner.
As this dimmer uses Matter over Thread, you will need a Matter Controller and Thread Border Router as part of your setup to achieve full use of the device. Luckily, if you’re an Apple Home user, and have a Home Hub with Thread built in (HomePod mini, HomePod 2nd gen, Apple TV4K – certain models), you have everything you need to get this new device running.
Eve state this switch will be available for shipping from March 17th, priced at US$49.95, presumably from Amazon.com and Amazon.ca as well as other outlets.
Sweet. Less than half the price of the Inovelli dimmer, if sold on Amazon.ca.
Wish the dimmer was touch-sensitive (so you can slide your finger) versus having to click up/down
