Setting Up Multi-Vendor Automations With HomeKit
One of the greatest advantages of Apple HomeKit is that it allows us to ignore differences between different vendors and gives us the ability to let them “just work” together. In this video, we’re going to set up a simple automation to turn on lights from multiple companies, using another company’s motion sensor. Although there are definitely advantages to sticking with lights from a single manufacturer, sometimes you just want to use what you have on hand and you want them to just work together. This is where Apple HomeKit excels. Although I’m using specific devices in this video, you really could replicate this at your house with any HomeKit supported motion sensor and HomeKit supported lights. The only thing you really need to have is a HomeKit hub (Apple TV, Apple HomePod, or iPad in Homehub mode) to listen for the motion event and trigger the automations.
