Netatmo Roll Out HomeKit Secure Video for Their Indoor Camera
As first reported by Adam Miarka on the HomeKit subReddit, Netatmo has officially announced that their Smart Indoor Camera (previously branded the Welcome Camera) will now begin supporting Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video (HSV) functionality. The rollout of this firmware update will begin today and will be a free download for all Welcome camera owners.
Whilst this update was actually available, as we reported back in December, the update was only a beta, and as such was neither official nor the finished ‘product’, with a few bugs being reported by users who’d assumed it was an official release and therefore out of beta. Their outdoor camera will reportedly also gain HSV later in the year. Netatmo have also generously released a short video showing how HSV works with the Smart Indoor Camera.
If you’re not already aware of HomeKit Secure Video (HSV), this was a new set of features introduced by Apple at WWDC 2019, that allows suitable cameras to view both a live stream and recordings from within the Home app, rather than having to go to your camera’s own app. Another new feature allows for scrubbing along a video timeline that appears at the bottom of the screen, and also allows the user to set motion detection preferences, so whilst motion sensors can detect human activity, cars or pets can be ignored when it comes to getting motion detection notifications on your phone.
