Meross Announces its First Matter Thermostat For N. America

Meross today announced the release of its first Matter-certified smart thermostat suitable for North America. This is in fact their first smart thermostat for this region, in fact. The company has some catching up to do, however, in a category that’s already well populated by many, more established brands.

One of its selling points, at least to some, is its Matter compatibility, which means it’ll work with all of the main platforms, and without relying on cloud connectivity – unless you opt to use the company’s own app. Meross claim it will work with 95% of existing HVAC systems, which includes single or multi-stage furnaces, boilers, ACs, heat pumps, and fan coil units. It does require a C wire for power, so if you don’t have one, you may need an adaptor, which the company also sells.

As with nearly all Meross Matter devices, this uses Matter over WiFi, so no Thread option unfortunately.

Like previous Meross heating products of a similar kind, the thermostat offers a touch-sensitive, white glass panel, with LEDs and icons to show you the various functions and modes.

Whilst the Meross app isn’t required other than possibly for initial setup, the app does offer a feature that allows you to track and monitor your usage, to see where spending is going, and help with budgeting or even highlighting areas that are less cost effective.

The package comes complete with the thermostat, trim plate, a backplate, wiring stickers, screws and anchors, and a user manual. The list price is US$99.99, but for now the company are selling it via their online store at 30% off, bringing the price to just US$69.99 for a limited period. It should be noted that this device is only designed for and certified for use in North America, not other regions.
