HomeRun for Apple Watch Released

£2.99 (UK) | $2.99 (US) | €3.49 (EU) | homerun.app

Aaron Pearce, the man behind a series of great apps created to work with HomeKit (HomeCam, HomePass and HomeScan), has released a brand new app specifically for Apple Watch (Series 1 and above*) that allows for quick access to scenes created in your HomeKit environment, all from your wrist.

Whilst Apple’s ‘Home’ does have a companion app for Apple Watch that allows access to both individual devices and scenes, up until the latest iteration of the Apple Watch, many users found it very slow and often unresponsive. This is where HomeRun steps in, breaking the experience down to just your scenes, which makes the whole process of controlling your devices a much more streamlined process. The app works on the basis of tiles on your watch face that use a combination of colours and icons to create a clean and simple interface. This is all done via your iPhone initially, where you choose your preferred scenes, choose the colour and icon for said scene, and then ‘drag and drop’ them into place. A tile can either be spread across the width of the watch face, or lined up alongside other tiles, in a two or three tile configuration, all via the iPhone interface. Once done, the layout gets synced with the display on the Watch app. The app supports Apple Watch Complications too, so you can include the apps icon into any of your current watch faces.

The HomeRun is app is available now via the App Store, and if you need more information you can visit the dedicated homerun.app site.

* WatchOS 5 requires an iPhone 5s or later running iOS 12 or later, and one of the following Apple Watch models:

  • Apple Watch Series 1
  • Apple Watch Series 2
  • Apple Watch Series 3
  • Apple Watch Series 4

watchOS 5 is not compatible with the first-generation Apple Watch.
