Ecobee SmartCamera with Apple HomeKit

Note: The Ecobee Camera used in this video was provided to me by Ecobee at no cost for this review. The opinion is totally my own. Making sure you have the information in case you believe that affects my opinion.

If you’re considering picking up an Ecobee Camera they are currently available only on the Ecobee website. I’m leaving this Amazon affiliates link for the Ecobee Thermostat as a place holder for when the Ecobee Camera starts to ship on Amazon.

If you’re interested in adding some new devices to your smart home, please consider using my Amazon.com shop as a starting point as it really does help to support me in continuing to create new content. You get to support creators making content you care about and Amazon sends us a bit of cash. Win/win

Ecobee has made a name for themselves as the maker of one of the most popular smart thermostats available. With support for Apple Homekit, Amazon Alexa, as well as GoogleHome, they have been building their customer base into one of the most recognizable brands in the smartphone world.

The Ecobee Camera is a beautiful looking camera, contrasting from many of the white plastic Smart Cameras that have been hitting the market in the last year. Whether the consumer market is willing to pay the premium that Ecobee is charging (the price currently showing as $249CDN) will be interesting to watch.

As a Homekit camera, the Ecobee Camera is functional. In its initial release, Ecobee has not exposed the motion or occupancy sensors to Homekit which makes it one of the least capable Homekit cameras on the market today. As well, although there are rumours of Homekit Secure Video support being planned, there’s no confirmed date yet.

Where the Ecobee Camera is going to shine is as a core component of the Ecobee Haven security offering that Ecobee has recently launched. I’m looking forward to getting more hands-on with the Haven system and will be posting more soon.

  • $179 for a smart indoor 1080p camera… in Q1-Q2 of 2020, it must be very smart.
